Emotional sicknesses increase everywhere in the world. Surveys by the World Health Organization (WHO) show that four emotional syndromes can be found among the ten most frequent illnesses: Depression, alcohol addiction, manic-depressive disturbance and schizophrenia. Health is more than just the absense of illness and physical affliction. Disturbances of the spiritual balance are not thematized very often in the public discourse, although more and more people are affected by it. According to experts, about one third of all people suffers from a severe emotional sickness at least once in their life. The BSFP supports a number of programs that are aimed at helping those affected to lead an independent life, as well as retain and promote their individual abilities and resources.

The Sozialwerk der Freien Christengemeinde Bremen was founded in 1979 with a help and support program offered right in the founder's private home. In 1982 the Heimstätte am Grambker See onened as the Sozialwerk's first larger facility, a pilot scheme in the context of psychiatric care. Within a few years many other areas of work were opened up. According to the slogan "Care for each other" various programs and social services are offered today for senior citizens, people with psychological diseases, children and youths, as well as unique programs in the field of education and health. The Sozialwerk offers social training in various areas, a voluntary year of social service (FSJ), discipleship training and an orientation year for peope looking to work in the field pofessionally.

Since 2004, the Christengemeinde Oase has worked in a Plattenbau area in Dresden, to help people living here in difficult social circumstances. The Sozial-Verein-Oase wants to spread the love of God among the residents, meet their needs and offer a platform for them to share their thoughts. A uniform store and a computer cabinet are operated for beginners at the moment.

The DE'IGNIS-Fachklinik (Specialist Clinical Centre) treats people with emotional, psychopathic and vegetative sicknesses in the context of stationary and parttime stationary precautions and rehabilitation provisions. There are special approaches for treating emotional sicknesses in connection with religious difficulties. The treatment is carried out according to a Christian-integrated concept.

Life Challenge offers a drug therapy program for a duration of 10 months. The program is meant for addicted men ranging from 17 to 45 years of age. We currently have 15 spots in the therapy program and four spots for intensive therapeutical in our Nachsorgehaus. Everyone coming to us for help is encouraged to get his life back on track, to challenge himself with questions of identity, meaning and belief and to have the desire to live a clean life.

Teen Challenge Stuttgart is a Sozialwerk for addicted women. Eight therapy places each for women between 18 and 40 years are offered in two therapeutic communities in "Schlössle" and "Bernhardsmühle". They are based on Christian principles. We take women, who are willing to live without addictive drugs, women who have existential problems, look for support and are open to hear what kind of help God has to offer to them. We see ourselves as a substitute family for a limited time.

Home for spiritually handicapped personalities

The Sozialwerk wants to actively participate in helping the poor, weary and disadvantages people in our society. Our social services include pragnancy consultation, help for pupils and a program to help unemployed people with applications for jobs. On top of that we run a foreign aid program, a clothing collecting point and a café. Elderly people in the area can make use of our visiting service and overweight people can attend our self-help group to encourage and motivate each other and do some light excercising to help with the weight loss.
